Film

Hero of My Heart
Hero of My Heart was filmed in Newport Beach, California in 1993.  Stephanie, age 4, is the only child of a young couple in the throws of marital problems, heading for divorce.  They both love their daughter, but have grown apart and cannot communicate.  As the father leaves to start a new life, Stephanie, in her first on-camera crying scene, is on the staircase pleading with her Daddy not to go.  Later Stephanie and her mom discuss the problem huddled together on the couch watching, with tears, the flames in their fireplace.

Stephanie with Gregory Harrison

Lies of the Heart, The Laurie Kellog Story
In Lies of the Heart, the Laurie Kellog Story, Stephanie, age 5, witnesses the abuse of young Laurie (Jennie Garth) by her older husband (Gregory Harrison). Laurie, unbeknown to her, is sold by her step father to the older Gregory. The fairy tale marriage soon turns into a nightmare when Gregory shows his real face-an abuser and user. Laurie murders her husband and is put on trial. The film is based on a true story.
This was Stephanie's first movie with Gregory Harrison, who unlike his part, is a loving father and husband. Gregory taught Stephanie the "Harrison Hug" where family members are affectionately cuddled and hugged. When Stephanie booked A Christmas Romance with Olivia Newton-John, she was overjoyed that she was reunited to work again with her friend Gregory.

The River Wild
Having just turned 6, Stephanie and her Mom traveled to Whitefish, Montana for her first major studio film, The River Wild; starring Meryl Streep, Kevin Bacon, David Strathairn, and Joseph Mazzello. Stephanie and her Mom were on location in Montana and Oregon over 3 months filming this action-adventure story. Meryl Streep (mother) takes her family on a white water rafting trip where they encounter bad guys Kevin Bacon and John O'Reilly, who have just robbed a cattle auction. The family struggles and eventually subdues the criminals, but only after a harrowing trip down the river.
The movie is one of Stephanie's favorites, because she worked with major stars in beautiful locations. The whole experience was one she will never forget.

Christmas Romance
Stephanie and her Mom traveled to Vancouver, B.C. to film a CBS movie of the week with Olivia Newton-John, Olivia's daughter Chloe Lattanzi, and Gregory Harrison. A Christmas Romance tells the story of a widowed mother with 2 daughters, who faces losing her home during the Christmas holidays because she cannot make the mortgage payments. The banker (Gregory Harrison) who comes to evict the family is rescued by Stephanie when his car plows into a snow bank; forcing him to spend Christmas in the family home where he falls in love with the mother (Olivia). This was Stephanie's first trip to Vancouver and she cherishes the memories of her time with Olivia and Gregory. The location of the family house, outside Vancouver, was in a beautiful wilderness area, where Stephanie played with baby sheep, rabbits and a cow named Daisy. This was Stephanie's second film with her Gregory Harrison, and she was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him again.  The movie formed a friendship between Stephanie, Olivia, Gregory, and Chloe, which continues to this day.

Trial by Fire
In this drama/thriller, Stephanie plays the part of Gail O'Grady's daughter. Gail (Paulette Gil) is a school teacher accused of having an improper relations with one of her male students who is her son's best friend. Stephanie is horrified when she finds her brother, who has committed suicide because of the rumors and gossip.

The Last Great Ride
Stephanie says of this film:

"I almost missed the call back to audition for the part of 'Jules' in the Last Great Ride. My family was flying to San Francisco after school but my Mom raced me to meet the director (Ralph Portillo) in Burbank and we still were able to catch our flight. Boy, what I would have missed, working in Wisconsin with Ernest Borgnine and Eileen Brenner.
The movie was filmed in Kenosha and Burlington, Wisconsin in July 1998. I never ever dreamed Wisconsin could be so beautiful. It was so green and pretty with large farms, and beautiful homes.
The story was about a young boy who comes to visit his grandmother (Eileen Brenner) for the summer. He meets me (Jules), a tomboy, the local town paper delivery girl, and the star pitcher of the local baseball team. Ernest Borgnine lives in a mansion as the caretaker. The house is going to be sold because the taxes are not paid. We used Ernest's car, a beautiful vintage Duesenberg, to go on a adventure to find the money that the owner of the house had hidden but had left behind for Ernest to find. Jason Ilervey (of the Wonder Years) plays the bad guy who is trying to get the house from Ernest. We find the money just in time and Ernest and Eileen are reunited, as they had been high school sweethearts but had gone their separate ways."

Prison of Secrets
Stephanie says of this film:

"I first auditioned for this movie when it was named 'A Stranger in Paradise' which was a true story about a Mom (Stephanie Zimbalist), who goes to prison for stealing money from her boss (she really didn't do that). The Dad (Gary Frank) was a radio talk show host who used his program to send his wife's messages about cruel prison guards (one of them played by Dan Lornia) and the unfair abusive treatment of the women prisoners.
The movie was filmed next to Sybil Brand Institute for Women, a real prison, in Los Angeles. I was real scared when my Mom and I first pulled up to the prison but after the first day it was really interesting walking around and seeing all the fences, guard gates, and locked doors. I learned so much from the director, Fred Gerber.
I loved working with Gary Frank and Stephanie Zimbalist. After making the film the name was changed to 'Prison of Secrets' which I think was a better title. It aired in late 1996 on the Lifetime Network Channel."

Prince of Egypt
Stephanie says of this film:

"The Prince of Egypt was my first animated feature film and boy was that exciting, especially working for Stephen Spielberg's company, DreamWorks. During the making of the movie everything was kept very secret so that the public wouldn't find out anything until the picture was close to being released, Christmas 1998.
My voice was recorded in a sound proof room where I stood in front of a large screen on which the film was projected, so I could see my part. I played the 2nd sister of (Michelle Phieffer) who became the wife of Moses (Val Kilmer).
It was special project to be part of and the film was spectacular."

Splitsville
Stephanie says of this film:

"Splitsville was the first time I worked with a whole group of kids. It was filmed in beautiful residential area just outside of Los Angeles. I played the part of Karen, a 4th grader, who has a crush on a boy named James (David Berry) a 5th grader.
On the serious side, the movie was about kids coping with divorce. In fact the original name of this movie, first made in France, was "How to Divorce Your Parents". There were some very funny scenes, like the food fight in the school cafeteria and there were some very sad scenes, like when James finds out his parents are getting divorced. One scene called for James and Karen to have their first kiss. OH BOY, this was very hard for me to do, especially in front of all the cameras, the crew, and even my Mom and Dad. But I got through it with the help of my director, Lynn Hamrick.  What a wonderful and talented women she is!
The film was chosen to be screened at the Santa Barbara Kids Film Festival in October 1998 .I was reunited that week end with all the friends I had made on the movie. What a fun time."
